The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr

Older men’s health issues under microscope in Hervey Bay

More than 130 Hervey Bay men and their families are expected to learn more about keeping healthy, active and happy at a local annual men’s health seminar today.

Communities and Seniors Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr will officially open the Older Men Unlimited expo, during a regional tour of Hervey Bay.

Ms Nelson-Carr congratulated Hervey Bay’s Older Men Unlimited for putting the spotlight on men’s health during International Men’s Health Week (7-14 June).

“Unfortunately, older men tend to avoid visiting the doctor and often ignore health warning signs until it is too late,” she said.

“Today, more than ever, older men have the opportunity to educate themselves and take the rights steps to change their lives for the better.

“The Department of Communities and Disability Services Queensland are committed to helping Queenslanders feel safe, valued and empowered and to live happy and fulfilling lives,” she said.

“Older Men Unlimited, which receives triennial funding of $56,600, plays a vital community role in educating men about their health in an effort to help them enjoy a happy, healthy and productive life.”

The Expo is being held at the Hervey Bay Boat Club, Buccaneer Ave. The Minister will open the expo at 9.45 am.
