Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Gold Coast marine expertise on sale at Korea International Boat Show
Gold Coast companies are well-represented on a Queensland Government trade mission to present the State’s world-class marine capabilities at the 2008 Korea International Boat Show.
“Seven Gold Coast-based marine industry companies have joined our trade mission to attend the inaugural Korea International Boat Show which runs from 10 to 15 June 2008,” said Minister for Trade John Mickel.
“The Gold Coast, Cairns and Brisbane are widely recognised as hubs for marine industries within Queensland, Australia’s premier marine industries state. It is pleasing to see the number of thriving marine-based businesses and industries with export capabilities keen to sell their wares in Korea,” Mr Mickel said.
“Gold Coast businesses taking part in the Korea International Boat Show include Superior Jetties, world-renowned marina designers and marine project managers, and representatives of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, the largest on-water boat show in the Asia Pacific.
“Sodablast, makers of environmentally friendly marine cleaning and paint removal products, and Airberth Internationial, producers of state-of-the-art lifting systems for all kinds of boats are also represented.”
“Southport-based Fixtech Marine Solutions, producers of marine-specialised adhesives and sealants and Australia’s internationally best-known producer of recreational boats, Riviera, will also take part in the Korea International Boat Show.
“Burleigh-based Pacific Pontoon and Pier and Molendinar’s Sunrunner Sport Cruiser company round out the large Gold Coast contingent joining me in Korea.”
“As this is the inaugural event in Korea, it is an excellent opportunity for Gold Coast marine businesses to gain ground-floor access to a market that is expected to boom over the next five to ten years.
“The large Queensland marine delegation of 18 businesses at the Korea International Boat Show is a reflection of Queensland’s high-level marine expertise as well as the close relationship between Queensland and Gyeonggi Province, underpinned by our Sister State relationship,” said Mr Mickel.
The West Coast of Gyeonggi Province is ripe for marine development with over 252 kilometres of coastline and around 11 million people living within 150 kilometres of the Boat Show venue.
“I have no doubt that participating in the trade mission will assist these Gold Coast businesses to receive favourable consideration as they compete in the future for business in this growing market in South Korea,” Mr Mickel said.
Mr Mickel today (11 June) opened the Korea International Boat Show alongside Gyeonggi Governor Moon-Soo Kim. He will also host the Governor at a special Queensland Marine Industry Seminar this afternoon to be attended by participating Queensland marine businesses. Guest speakers at the seminar will highlight Queensland’s considerable marine industry export credentials and capabilities.
