Big Day for small business

The State Government’s Small Business Solutions service is holding its first one-day seminar for small business owners featuring a range of real world small business speakers including David Koch and the famous Beechworth Baker, Tom O’Toole.

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said he encouraged small business owners to attend the seminar on 1 September at Brisbane Technology Park so they can receive practical advice from qualified industry professionals.

“This seminar is the first of its kind in south-east Queensland and it will provide a wealth of knowledge from successful business owners, as well as information from small business providers in finance, telecommunications, marketing and more,” Mr Welford said.

“We have decided to run this seminar as there was nothing like this in Queensland to give small businesses the chance to learn from a variety of people and meet other like-minded small business owners.

“This seminar complements the Small Business Solutions business mentoring program, which has been running for just over a year now.

“We have provided small business mentoring now to over 500 small businesses throughout Queensland and through the program we’ve realised that small business owners want to learn and grow more.”

Tom O’Toole, who is famous for his Beechworth Bakery, is the keynote speaker for the Big One Day Seminar – revealing his success tips on how he grew a rural bakery into a multi-million dollar baking industry.

Small business guru David Koch, will host a small business panel discussion in the afternoon as well as be the guest speaker for the evening networking session where he will unveil tips on growing a small business.

Practical workshopswill also be held throughout the day to provide assistance in areas such as budgeting, finance, cash flow, insurance, legal issues, appointing and managing staff, marketing and growing their business.

The seminar also includes panel discussions from a range of business providers as well as displays and information from small business providers. The seminar is part of the Government’s plan to support the skills, profitability and growth of small businesses across Queensland.
