Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Post-boom impacts to be discussed at CQ ministerial forum

The economic, social and environmental impacts of the mining boom will be discussed at the Ministerial Regional Community Forum for central Queensland in Moura on Monday 16 June.

Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth Rachel Nolan are scheduled to attend the forum.

Main Roads and Local Government Minister Warren Pitt, who is responsible for the Ministerial Regional Community Forums, said the two parliamentarians would discuss the future of central Queensland mining communities during and after coal mining boom with regional representatives, known as forum members.

“I encourage anyone interested in this local issue to attend as part of the public audience and listen to the views of forum members and the attending members of Parliament,” Mr Pitt said.

The forum will take place at Kianga Memorial Hall, McArthur Street, Moura, from 10am.

Ministerial Regional Community Forums have been held since 1999 and are conducted up to four times a year in regions across Queensland.

The public meetings bring together Cabinet ministers and appointed regional leaders to share information and discuss topics relevant to the region.

“The forums enable the Queensland Government to keep in touch with communities and to be better informed about regional issues of concern,” Mr Pitt said.
