Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Crisis care accommodation to be discussed at Chinchilla forum
Crisis care accommodation, Indigenous housing, and attracting and retaining skilled staff in the bush will be on the agenda at the Ministerial Regional Community Forum and public workshop for the Darling Downs–South West Region in Chinchilla at the weekend.
Main Roads and Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said other topics to be discussed on Sunday and Monday, 15 and 16 June, would include access to and availability of health services, the development of the resource industry in the region, water supply and issues affecting women living in rural communities
Treasurer Andrew Fraser and Parliamentary Secretary, Regional Queensland Councillor and Member for Stafford Stirling Hinchliffe are scheduled to attend the forum.
“The public workshop next Sunday will discuss the above topics and identify possible solutions that will be presented to the Treasurer during Monday’s forum,” Mr Pitt said.
He said Queensland Government ministers and members of Parliament would discuss the issues with regional representatives, known as forum members, at each forum.
“I encourage anyone interested in these local issues to attend as part of the public audience and listen to the views of forum members and the attending members of Parliament,” Mr Pitt said.
The public workshop will take place at Chinchilla Culture Centre on Sunday, starting with lunch at noon followed by the workshop, starting at 1pm. The forum will take place at Chinchilla Cultural Centre at 80-86 Heeney Street Chinchilla starting at 9 am.
Ministerial Regional Community Forums have been held since 1999 and are conducted up to four times a year in regions across Queensland.
The public meetings bring together Cabinet ministers and appointed regional leaders to share information and discuss topics relevant to the region.
“The forums enable the Queensland Government to keep in touch with communities and be better informed about regional issues of concern,” Mr Pitt said.
