The Honourable Anna Bligh
PREMIER ANNOUNCES PUBLIC SERVICE RENEWAL
Dave Stewart has been appointed Acting Director-General of Transport and will be charged with looking at new congestion busting initiatives for Queensland motorists, Premier Anna Bligh announced today.
Ms Bligh said the new appointment was part of a renewal process she had instigated to help create a more modern and effective public service in Queensland.
She said Mr Stewart would replace Mr Bruce Wilson - the longest serving
Director-General in Queensland.
“Bruce has done a terrific job and was recognised on the weekend with an AM in the Queens Birthday honours,” Ms Bligh said.
“However there is now a chance for renewal and the appointment of Dave Stewart will ensure one of my top priorities – tackling urban congestion – remains at the top of the public service agenda.
“Mr Stewart is currently a Deputy Director-General in my Department heading up our Urban Congestion Taskforce.
“He has overseen the development and bidding process for our multi-billion Airport Link and Northern Busway projects and has led the roll-out of infrastructure projects in our South East Queensland Water Grid.
“He has extensive experience in delivering civil infrastructure projects in Australia and the United Kingdom.
“I want him to bring that knowledge to the management of the multi-billion dollar Transport Department and think outside the square to develop innovative solutions to the pressures of urban congestion resulting from our massive population growth.”
Ms Bligh said Bruce Wilson would take up a new role as the interim CEO of the new Public Service Commission.
The creation of the Public Service Commission was announced by the Premier in March and involves the amalgamation of the Office of the Public Service Commissioner and the Service Delivery Performance Commission.
“Bruce brings vast experience in the Queensland public sector to his new role and will play a key role in my aim to improve the management of Government business and our capacity to deliver it.
“I also want him using this experience on other special projects including the restructure of QR and the operation of the new TransLink Transit Authority.”
Ms Bligh also confirmed that Mr Mick Reid will take up his new role as Director-General of Health on June 23.
“Mick has been instrumental in shaping the Commonwealth Government’s health reform agenda and has proven track record in the organisation and running of hospitals and health services,” she said.
“I am also pleased to announce that Mr Michael Walsh has been appointed the inaugural CEO of the Major Hospitals Project Office.
“Michael is currently the Deputy Director-General for Strategy and Governance in the Department of Infrastructure and Planning and will bring the experience of managing the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan to his new role.
“His will focus on our massive investment in new health infrastructure allowing Mick to focus on our people and patients as well as the delivery of our $10 Billion Health Action Plan.”
