Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Main Roads has responded to community concerns and will reinstate the Buderim signage on the Bruce Highway at the Sippy Downs exit to the Sunshine Motorway.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the reinstatement of the signage was decided as part of a review of road signage practices throughout the Sunshine Coast region.

"It is important that road signage remains as uniform and simple as possible,” he said.

“The Buderim exit sign was originally removed in an attempt to avoid confusion for drivers unfamiliar to the area.

"However, the Buderim community has made a compelling case that the signage be restored to help ensure their town stays on the map, so to speak.

"As Main Roads Minister, I'm pleased to be able to announce that the Buderim exit signage will be reinstated as soon as possible.

"Directional signage often can be more complex than people might imagine, but I'm certain that the right outcome has been achieved in this case."

Mr Pitt said he had met personally with local petitioners and Kawana MP Steve Dickson about the Buderim signage issue.

"In May I received a petition signed by more than 4500 people on this matter, and met with Steve Dickson and Mrs Lynn Moss, the vice-president of the Buderim War Memorial Community Association," Mr Pitt said.

“Mrs Moss and the association’s president John McMahon have been the driving forces behind the petition and rallying the community, and the Buderim Chamber of Commerce has also been very actively involved.

"I believe it is important to listen and make an effort to understand the concerns raised by the community, and I know the department takes this approach this as well.

“It is not always possible to agree with the arguments raised and to accede to the requests being made.

“However, in this case I am pleased that we have been able to respond favorably to the community’s request to have the signage reinstated.

"This is another example of how Main Roads consults with the community to achieve the best outcome for everyone."
