Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
State Budget delivers for Central Western roads
$52 million allocated for Central Western roads in 2008-09 would help connect Queensland’s regional communities, Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said today.
The funding is part of a record $3.235 billion commitment towards roads in the 2008-09 State Budget that will drive progress on the Queensland Government’s infrastructure plans.
Mr Pitt said the funding would continue delivery of critical road improvements for local roads.
“The Diamantina Developmental Road between Windorah and Boulia will receive $7.6 million for various works as part of $11.4 million worth of projects,” Mr Pitt said.
“Another $4.4 million has been allocated this year towards a $6 million program of projects along the Blackall-Jericho Road.
“There is also $1.8 million to pave and seal the Birdsville Developmental Road, 109km west of Windorah, as part of a $1.9 million project.”
Mr Pitt said Central Western roads would also benefit through $6.8 million in Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) funding.
The TIDS program allows local government to access State Government funding for projects on local roads.
“The Blackall-Tambo Regional Council will receive $1.1 million to pave and seal a section of the Blackall-Emmet Road, 41km west of Blackall, as part of a total funding package of $1.6 million,” Mr Pitt said.
“A further $1.2 million has been allocated to pave and seal a section of the Yaraka-Emmett Road, 20km east of Yaraka.”
