Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Safer passage to school for students
Students at Varsity Primary and Senior College will enjoy greater safety going to and from school thanks to a funding agreement approved by Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel.
The funding agreement will enable the college to establish a new supervised school crossing.
"The Queensland Government has committed to 45 new school crossings from July 2007 to June 2010," Mr Mickel said.
"This new Varsity College crossing is one of the 15 that will be approved for this financial year.
"Varsity College, with the support of the Delfin Lend Lease Group, has agreed to fund the crossing and employ school crossing supervisors.
"The Gold Coast City Council has also agreed to fund the installation of suitable crossing infrastructure," Mr Mickel said.
"Having considered the policy provisions of the School Crossing Supervisor Scheme and the undertakings made by the parties involved, I have approved the supervised school crossing along Varsity Parade at Varsity Lakes.
"An agreement will be prepared to ensure that the parties involved understand their levels of financial commitment and ongoing support of the crossing."
