Meeting to progress the National Disability Service Agreement

Disability Services Ministers from around Australia will gather in Sydney on Friday, May 30, to continue negotiations for a new national disability services agreement.

Queensland Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said a number of crucial policy and funding matters are on the agenda.

“This is shaping up to be an historic meeting with far-reaching benefits for Queenslanders with a disability, their families and carers,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“Some of the funding issues we’ll be discussing of course relate to the recent Rudd Budget announcements on the Disability Assistance Package (DAP) and new capital funds,” she said.

“I’m going to the meeting to secure the best outcomes for Queenslanders with a disability.”

On the table for discussion would be the allocation of $901 million over four years to states and territories on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis and capital funds of $100 million to deliver more respite and supported accommodation for the adult sons and daughters of older parent carers.

“I can assure Queenslanders I will achieve the best deal possible for people with a disability, their families and carers.”
