Increased support for people with a disability in Ingham

A disability support service in Ingham has received a welcome funding boost to continue to provide vital accommodation and support services for people with a disability.

Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr announced the funding today while visiting the Ingham Parent’s Support Group’s Kirkcaldy Accommodation house to see first-hand the excellent work carried out there, as part of the Bligh Government’s Community Cabinet.

Ms Nelson-Carr said Disability Services Queensland (DSQ) would provide an additional $76,000 in recurrent funding and almost $34,360 in one-off funding to improve the capacity of Kirkcaldy Accommodation.

“This is a shared house which provides supported accommodation for four people with a disability,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“The people living in Kirkcaldy have high and complex needs, and this latest funding allocation will ensure they receive the best possible care and support.

“This organisation is committed to providing much-needed disability support services to people with a disability in North Queensland.”

The Ingham Parent’s Support Group already receive $267,580 in recurrent funding for the operation of Kirkcaldy Accommodation.

Ms Nelson-Carr said the Ingham Parent’s Support Group had been providing much-needed support for local children and adults with a disability since 1976.

“In addition to Kirkcaldy Accommodation, the organisation also provides in-home and centre-based respite services, and support to individuals under DSQ’s Adult Lifestyle Support Package and Post School Services Program,” she said.

“The Ingham Parent’s Support Group also receives funding from DSQ’s Home and Community Care program.”
