Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Safer, smoother ride at Crosby Hill
Work is due to start tomorrow to upgrade the Crosby Hill section of Mooloolaba Road, providing safer and better conditions for motorists on this important tourism and access route.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today announced a $3 million contract had been awarded to Neumann Contractors, with work to include resealing and widening of the road's shoulders.
"More than 5900 vehicles drive this 1.26km section of Mooloolaba Road each day and it's a vital route for the flourishing local tourism industry," Mr Pitt said.
"By laying a 10.4m asphalt seal between Mackenzie Green and Walgarri Drive, Main Roads will provide smoother driving conditions for motorists and also reduce the need for future maintenance works.
"The project will also result in two 3.2m traffic lanes with 2m shoulders, creating a safer road environment for motorists and cyclists alike."
Mr Pitt said the upgrade was expected to be completed later this year.
"Other work that will be undertaken as part of the project include intersection improvements at Taylor and Meads roads," Mr Pitt said.
"Existing culverts will be extended to cater for increasing traffic and a new guardrail will be installed near Ironbark Road.
"I'd like to urge motorists to take care, drive to the conditions and remember to follow the direction of signage and roadworkers at all times."
