The Honourable Warren Pitt

Sheepstation Creek Bridge opens to traffic

The Kilcoy community is enjoying improved traffic conditions on one of its busiest roads thanks to last week's opening of the new Sheepstation Creek bridge on the D'Aguilar Highway.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the new concrete bridge, which replaced an older timber structure, provided benefits for all road users.

"The new Sheepstation Creek bridge is safer for drivers and cyclists alike, with its 11-metre-wide approaches, two 3.5-metre lanes and two-metre shoulders," Mr Pitt said.

"The State Government has invested $4 million in this project during the past 12 months and it demonstrates our commitment to improving Queensland's roads.

"The old timber bridge wasn't designed to carry today's traffic volumes and the new bridge, which is 60cm higher than its predecessor, is also significantly more flood resistant."

Mr Pitt urged motorists to drive to the speed limits, which would remain in place until the finishing touches are put on the new bridge.

"Some work, such as the installation of guardrail and removal of the sidetrack, is still being completed, but this should be finalised by the end of this month, weather permitting," Mr Pitt said.

"Once this work is finished, the speed limit will be lifted back to 100kmh but until that time it will stay at 60kmh.

"It is imperative that motorists obey roadwork signage and drive to conditions, for the benefit of all road users, including themselves."
