The Honourable Desley Boyle

Milton-based ICT company NetBox Blue has secured a multimillion contract to supply its SpamChecker email filtering system to Canon Japan.

Under the deal, estimated to be worth between $5 and $10 million over the next two years, NetBox Blue will supply Canon with up to 500 of its email filtering devices a month.

Minister for Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle congratulated the company and said this would present more opportunities for further development in email filtering technology.

“This is a major achievement for the local company, with Canon already supplying 50 per cent of all IT solutions for the small-to-medium enterprise market in Japan,” Ms Boyle said.

“Canon’s research also predicts demand for this kind of technology will triple over the next four years – with enormous opportunities opening up for the SpamChecker.”

NetBox Blue Chairman John Fison said he expected the company’s presence in Japan to grow significantly in the coming years.

“The SpamChecker is the first of many NetBox Blue products we hope to release into the Japanese market,” he said.

“In fact, we’re currently working on a Unified Threat Management appliance for Canon.”

Ms Boyle said NetBox Blue was just one of many Queensland firms to benefit from assistance from the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s Information Industries Bureau (IIB).

“The IIB has worked with the company for many years, providing valuable market information and providing opportunities to take part in key industry collaboration events such as the ICT Factor conferences and CollabIT event,” Ms Boyle said.

“The IIB also facilitated the company’s successful application for a $21,600 State Government grant for new product development last financial year.”

NetBox Blue will be part of the Queensland contingent at this year’s CeBIT event in Sydney – Australasia’s largest and most prestigious international ICT trade exhibition.

CeBIT will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre from 20-22 May.

“The support of the Queensland Government enabled us to attend CeBIT in 2006 and 2007 and that gave us the ability to form strategic partnerships with the likes of ESET, one of the United States’ leading software security specialists, who we will be sharing a stand with this year,” Mr Fison said.
