Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Collingwood Park residents whose homes have been damaged by mine subsidence are continuing to receive support from the State Government, Mines Minister Geoff Wilson said today.
The subsidence event occurred at Collingwood Park early on the morning of Saturday 26 April.
Inspections by Department of Mines and Energy and Ipswich City Council have identified damaged homes in an area bounded by Duncan, McInnerney and McLaughlin streets as well as Moloney and Fowler Streets.
The Government has offered a $10 million dollar assistance package to repair or buy properties damaged by the subsidence, now or at any stage in the future, for the lifetime of the property.
Mr Wilson told State Parliament today regular surveys and monitoring had helped establish the extent of the subsidence.
“While the subsidence has slowed significantly and is in a limited area, we will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Mr Wilson said.
“There have been 85 requests for house inspections and 60 homes have had a preliminary examination.
“Structural engineers have completed building inspections on properties in and near the subsidence investigation area.
“Most of the 26 properties within the investigation area have now had building inspections and initial structural reports are expected this week.”
Mr Wilson said the reports would help decide the future of these properties.
“My department has also started compiling all historical geotechnical reports for Collingwood Park for an assessment by geotechnical consultants.
“This will form part of a comprehensive geotechnical investigation and study of the subsidence.”
Mr Wilson said seven homes had been evacuated, longer term housing had been finalised for four families, and suitable housing accommodation for the remaining three families was expected to be finalised shortly.
“Accommodation, removal and utility costs for these families are being met by the Government.
“The freecall service will continue to provide information to residents, information flyers and maps have been distributed, and counselling support services will continue.
“We will continue to provide support for those whose homes have been damaged and we are taking every possible step to address their needs and concerns.”
