Queensland in stitches over new comedy festival

Arts Minister Rod Welford announced today that some of the biggest names in Australian comedy would be heading north for Brisbane’s new comedy festival, In Stitches, from 17–29 June.

Mr Welford said In Stitches, presented by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), was a feast of stand-up, improv and music headlined by Ahn Do, Jimeoin, The Kransky Sisters, Akmal Saleh, The Umbilical Brothers, Fiona O’Loughlin and The Chaser team.

“For the past 18 months, stand-up comedy shows at QPAC have been continually selling out,” he said.

“QPAC has responded to this strong demand by staging In Stitches – 12 nights of performances by some of Australia’s most acclaimed comedians.

“This festival is a significant addition to Queensland’s cultural calendar, and hopefully it will become an annual event for QPAC.

“On top of the jam-packed main stage program, QPAC is also transforming its outside venue, Cascade Court, into a free comedy hub for the duration of the festival.

“From 8pm until late local comedians and musicians will take to the microphone and show their funny sides with a mix of stand-up, improv, live music and weird and wonderful comic acts.”

Mr Welford said other performers taking part in the festival included The Scared Weird Little Guys, Cal Wilson, Carita Farrer, Raymond Crowe and Julia Morris.

“Brisbane’s very own Dave Eastgate is also on the bill, performing alongside other emerging stars of comedy Clint Paddison and Joel Ozborn in the Young Guns Of Comedy,” he said.

“Audience members also stand a chance of winning a $1,000 electronics voucher with the Framed competition, which encourages Queenslanders to submit a funny photograph inspired by the theme ‘in stitches’ to QPAC.”

In Stitches tickets are now on sale through qtix 136 246 or www.qtix.com.au. For more information on In Stitches and performance dates and times visit www.qpac.com.au
