BLIGH OPENS NEW CAIRNS 10-STOREY GREEN CBD OFFICE
Cairns: Premier Anna Bligh, flanked by Member for Cairns, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle, today officially opened a new $17 million 10-storey CBD office tower boasting the latest in energy-efficient design.
“The Cairns-based Hedley Group designed and constructed Citi–Central Office Building is a massive reflection of local confidence in Cairns and the Far North,” said the Premier.
“Functional, green focused and locally developed – it’s a great reflection on the strengths of the Far North.”
The building features include passive solar sun shades, high performance glazing, centrally controlled lighting and a high-efficiency chilled water generation air conditioning plant.
Member for Cairns Desley Boyle said that the building iss the first modern office building constructed by the private sector in the Cairns CBD in past decade.
“It is another demonstration of our buoyant local economy.
“It’s ideally located and is an exciting addition to our skyline and adds another element to the Far North’s ‘green’ sophistication.
“Our State Government’s nearby William McCormack Place, opened in 2002, was the first building in tropical Australia to earn a five-star rating,” she said.
Citi–Central comprises ground-level tenancy, 2 levels of car-parking for more than 95 car spaces and seven levels of 360 degree view office space providing 5000 m2 of lettable space.
Designers are confident Citi–Central will achieve at least a 4-star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating.
Tenants already include State and Federal departments. Among the State offices are; Department of Justice and Attorney General; Shared Services Agency; Disability Services Queensland; Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation; and Education, Training and the Arts
