EMERGENCY SERVICES VOLUNTEER RECOGNISED FOR GENERATION OF ASSISTANCE

Caboolture resident Roger Warren has been recognised for more than a quarter of century’s service to Queensland communities with the State’s volunteer emergency services.

Premier Anna Bligh and Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts formally presented Mr Warren with a National Medal Clasp for 25 years dedicated service to his community during the Queensland Government’s Community Cabinet meeting at Bribie Island today.

“Roger Warren has served in the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service in western Queensland before joining the Caboolture SES upon his retirement,” Mr Roberts said.

“Roger has the distinction of carrying the Olympic torch in 1956 for the Melbourne Games and again in 2000 for the Sydney Olympics.”

“After 14 years in the Rural Fire Brigade, Roger started his SES duties in Aramac in 1995 where he was working as a Rural Lands Officer,” Mr Roberts said.

“Roger held the position of local SES controller for 12 years and during that time responded to a number of natural disasters including floods, particularly in 2004 when Aramac suffered intense flooding as result of cyclones Fritz and Grace.”

Mr Roberts said Mr Warren has demonstrated a strong commitment to Queensland communities, and I pay tribute to him and his family for the sacrifices they have made.
