Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
The State Government will invest $800,000 to provide Caloundra West residents with their first bus service from Monday, April 14.
Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel said the introduction of the 603 service recognised the rapidly growing West Caloundra community.
"Residential estates in West Caloundra have really taken off and I am very pleased these residents will now enjoy a regular bus service from their area," Mr Mickel said.
"The 603 will be a local service providing access to the Stockland Shopping Centre, Caloundra Hospital, Currimundi Market Place and local schools and parks.
"The 603 will also allow local residents to transfer to other TransLink routes like the popular 601 commuter service to Maroochydore."
The 603 will provide services for residents in Bellvista, Caloundra West, Little Mountain, Currimundi and Aroona.
The service will run hourly, seven days a week during daylight hours. Minister Mickel said the need for a service in this area had been identified as part of the TransLink Network Plan.
"For emerging communities to thrive they need access to quality public transport," he said.
"I am very pleased we have been able to deliver this service for Caloundra West residents. This is a real win for the local community."
