Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Feedback sought for Pacific Motorway upgrade between Daisy Hill and Loganholme

The community has an important role to play in the next stage of the Pacific Motorway upgrade, following the release today of draft options for the 6.9km stretch between Daisy Hill and Loganholme.

The Australian Government Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Anthony Albanese, and Queensland’s Main Roads Minister, Warren Pitt, have jointly invited the community to provide feedback on the next stage of planning to widen the motorway.

The improvements will form Section C of the Pacific Motorway Transit Project, which is planning for upgrades to 16km of the Pacific Motorway through Rochedale South and Daisy Hill and extending further south to Shailer Park and Loganholme.

"The upgrade includes new bus and transit lanes, improved access on and off the motorway and the next stage of the V1 bikeway, making for quicker and easier travel," Mr Pitt said.

"We are making the best use of the road space by encouraging more people to use alternative and sustainable modes of transport, such as buses, car-pooling and cycling.

"I urge locals to visit one of the various public displays and talk to the Main Roads project team about the draft options."

Mr Albanese said the Australian Government was working together with Queensland and New South Wales to widen and upgrade the Pacific Motorway and Pacific Highway to improve trade and connectivity between Brisbane and Sydney.

"North of Tugun, the Australian Government is spending $455 million, matched by the Queensland Government, for a series of improvements that will allow the Pacific Motorway to serve the dual role as an interstate freight corridor and an important commuter traffic route," Mr Albanese said.

“It is part of our joint commitment under AusLink to improve south-east Queensland’s major transport arteries to cope with major population and industrial expansion.

“We are committed to do this in consultation with road users and others who are most affected,” he said.

Mr Pitt said the draft plans for the Daisy Hill to Loganholme section had been divided into three areas within which there were two possible options for each area.

“Any combination of the options is possible and will deliver much-needed transport improvements,” he said.

“Public feedback and ongoing technical investigations will determine the preferred planning outcome for this section of motorway."

The plans form the final part of the Pacific Motorway Transit Project, with planning for Section A (Eight Mile Plains to Springwood South) and Section B (Springwood South to Daisy Hill) completed last year.

Main Roads is in the process of reaching an agreement with the Australian Government on the scope and the extent of the funding package for the two previously planned sections.

Section B is the highest priority and includes an upgrade of the congested Loganlea Road Interchange and the Paradise Road Interchange. Main Roads will keep the community informed as works get underway.

The community can view the draft options for Section C of the motorway upgrade between Daisy Hill and Loganholme from Monday, 31 March, to Saturday, 10 May 2008, at information displays in the area and on the project website. People have until Friday, 30 May 2008, to submit their feedback.
