Mount Isa manufacturers urged to attend free workshop

Mount Isa manufacturers wanting to improve their business know-how should take advantage of a free high-performance workshop on offer this month at the local Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Centre.

Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle and Member for Mount Isa Betty Kiernan said Introduction to Lean Manufacturing was a hands-on workshop which allowed participants to learn through interactive presentations and practical exercises.

“I encourage Mount Isa businesses to consider attending to see if there are ways they can do things better,” Ms Boyle said.

Mrs Kiernan said: “This workshop focuses on eliminating inefficient activities in all areas of an organisation which can lead to increased work efficiency, staff involvement and customer satisfaction”.

Held on 15 April, the Introduction to Lean Manufacturing workshop will give participants an introduction to the Toyota Production System, Lean Manufacturing tools and exposure to the lean transformation process.

Mrs Kiernan said participants would take away five lean principles which they could implement in their own businesses to achieve greater success.

“All of the studies show that lean manufacturing increases productivity and profits,” she said.

“Every employer should consider taking the time and effort to implement these practices.”

Rod Wilkinson, Director of the Department’s Mount Isa Regional Centre, said the workshop would be held at 7pm at the Buffs Club, Mount Isa.
