Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

A $3.1 million project to resurface Mount Cotton Road between Valley Drive in Mount Cotton and Woodlands Drive at Thornlands will start in March.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the resurfacing would help protect the road.

"Mount Cotton Road carries significant volumes of traffic – more than 8000 vehicles a day,” Mr Pitt said.

“Resurfacing this 5km section of road with a new asphalt overlay will help protect the road into the future, keeping it safe for motorists.”

Member for Redlands John English said the project was one of many planned for Mount Cotton Road, with upgrades to two intersections already underway and a further two to be designed and constructed later this year.

“The intersections of Mount Cotton Road with Seaview and Mount View Roads are currently being upgraded, while the intersections with Hillview and Wuduru roads are scheduled for an upgrade soon,” Mr English said.

“Main Roads is in the process of preparing the final design for the Hillview and Wuduru Road intersections following consultation with the local community over the project plans.

"This is a great example of the community getting involved, and having a say on what they want from the road network.”

The current project is scheduled to start in March, and should be completed by late May 2008, weather permitting.

“The combination of the resurfacing of the 5km section of road with the intersection upgrades will make Mount Cotton Road a much safer road for motorists,” Mr English said.

“Obviously there will be some inconvenience to road users during these projects. However, I would appreciate the assistance of residents during this time as it will lead to a better outcome for our community.”
