Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
A stronger, more reliable power supply for Warwick
Work is about to start on a $20 million Ergon Energy project to upgrade the main electricity supply line to Warwick.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said the upgrade was part of a $30 million package of upgrades for Warwick.
“One of two 110,000-volt powerlines that runs from the Middle Ridge substation near Toowoomba through to Warwick will be completely replaced,” Mr Wilson said.
“The timber-pole transmission line will be replaced with a concrete-pole line that runs along the same 70 kilometre route.
“The new line will be much stronger and more reliable. It will be better able to cope with severe storms in the summer months.
Over the next few weeks, Ergon Energy staff and contractors will be entering properties along the line route, preparing for the start of construction.
“There will be tractors, slashers and other equipment clearing vegetation along the route and making sure access tracks are usable,” he said.
“Surveyors will be working along the line, putting in marker pegs. Semi-trailers will then begin delivering poles along the route.
“Construction will start at the Warwick end of the line, with the first poles due to be erected next month.
Around 280 concrete poles will be installed along the route.
Construction will be carried out over the next two years. The work will take place between April and October each year, away from the storm season.
The project is expected to be completed in October next year.
