Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Boost to Nanango early childhood services
Nanango families will receive improved support and services thanks to the establishment of a new early childhood education and child care centre.
Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said the new service centre would be used to house non-government organisations providing early childhood education and care services.
“The centre will be built on the site of the former Nanango pre-school, which will ensure ease of access to all families,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“This site is one of five surplus pre-schools purchased by the Department of Communities for early childhood service centres under the Queensland Government’s $14.3 million Best Start initiative.
“We are upgrading the decommissioned pre-schools and assisting community based service providers to set up early childhood education and child care services.
“The centres are designed to improve services and support children and their families by integrating a large number of services into one central location.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said the new service centre would significantly help young families access help and support.
“Nanango has been identified as a high priority area for child and family support services,” she said.
“The new centre will include a licensed school-age care service with a range of complimentary services such as family support, parenting classes, playgroups and toy library.”
The South Burnett Community Training Centre has been approved as the preferred service provider for the new centre, due to its past experience in providing a range of youth and family focused services.
Refurbishment of the former pre-school buildings is expected to be completed early 2009 with services planned to commence soon after.
