Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel

Smart State offers Bundaberg businesses export tips

Local companies that want to take their business to a new level are being encouraged to consider exporting.

Trade Minister John Mickel said the Queensland Government’s Getting Export Smart (GES) workshop series was a practical hands-on export training program designed to help Queensland-based companies take up the export challenge and become successful exporters.

“If you’re looking for new ways to grow your business, exporting may be for you,” Mr Mickel said.

The GES program includes, Is Exporting for You, Preparing for Export, Export Marketing, Getting it There and Getting Paid, and E-business for Exporting.

The workshop series kicks off with a free introductory session, Is Exporting for You?, to help companies regardless of size and industry, evaluate their export capability.

“It’s a great way to get valuable tips that could help transform your business,” the Minister said.

Mr Mickel said international business advisers from government and industry would share their expertise, from preparing a business for export and choosing the right overseas markets to effective international marketing techniques.

Mr Mickel said the program started last year and had drawn 300 business people to workshops across Queensland.

He said the Queensland Government was committed to enhancing the business environment in the state and expanding the export reach of Queensland companies.

"Queensland exported $16.7 billion worth of goods and services in the first six months of this financial year 2007-08," he said.

“Exporting smart goods and services contributes to the growth of our economy and, most importantly, creates jobs for Queenslanders.”

The initial introductory seminar is free. The next two half-day seminars in the series are $33 each; the final two full-day seminars are $66 each and the whole series is $150.

The following workshops will be delivered jointly with the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry - Maryborough.
