The Honourable Craig Wallace
RAINFALL HERALDS MORE GOOD NEWS FOR WARRILL VALLEY FARMERS
The news just keeps getting better for Warrill Valley farmers who today learned their water allocations jumped from 5% to 71%.
Water Minister Craig Wallace said he was advised by SunWater today that good inflows into Moogerah Dam over the past two weeks had further increased dam capacity to 46.5% or 38,700 megalitres.
Mr Wallace said the recent boost to dam levels would be welcomed by farmers who only a month ago were on zero water allocations.
“Our farmers out there have struggled with zero allocations since 2002 and a dam which has hovered at around 3% for most of last year until late January 2008,” Mr Wallace said.
“This latest increase to allocations will enable Warrill Valley farmers the chance to get back to the planning of their businesses with renewed confidence in their water supplies.
“It really sets the stage for a promising start to the next water year and I am encouraged by recent Bureau of Meteorology reports which indicate more rainfall until at least the end of autumn, which will further boost dam supplies,” he said.
Mr Wallace said allocations for High Priority entitlement holders such as surrounding towns and the nearby power station were at 100%.
Inflows to the dam, which has a capacity of 83,700 megalitres, have now ceased.
