Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Work to pave and seal 10.82 km of Diamantina Developmental Road, west of Bedourie, started this month.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said Main Roads’ construction arm, RoadTek, would carry out the $2.1 million contract for work on two sections of the road.
"The first section of road to be paved and sealed is 5.9km in length and the second is 4.9km," Mr Pitt said.
"Paving and sealing the road will improve travelling conditions and help maintain traffic speeds.
"The works will also increase the safety of all motorists, and will cater for the heavy vehicles that travel on the road daily."
Motorists are asked to exercise caution when driving through the work site and to take note of changed traffic conditions.
Work is expected to be completed by September 2008.
