Opposition Challenged to Release Spending Promises: Fraser

Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser today signalled the Government’s intention to keep a hawk-eye on Opposition spending promises.

Mr Fraser has challenged the Opposition to release detailed, fully costed policies across all portfolios.

“The Opposition should produce costed policies and provide them to the people of Queensland,” Mr Fraser said.

Mr Fraser said the Opposition, under recycled Leader Lawrence Springborg, had begun making promises in recent weeks without mention of funding sources or with full costings.

“We are facing a difficult and uncertain economic environment.

“The Opposition shouldn’t be providing uncosted spending commitments – they need to explain how they will be funding their promises.

“Mr Springborg needs to set out what policies from the last election he is proposing to keep and what he is proposing to change.

“He went to the last election with an unsustainable, irresponsible plan that would have plunged the state into financial crisis.

“He needs to set out in detail his plan for managing the Budget, instead of wandering around Queensland talking about the structure of the Liberal and National Parties.

“Whatever they do, we’ll be watching. The people of Queensland deserve to know.”
