Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Nominations to be a mayor or councillor close at noon tomorrow
Candidates seeking to be elected in the 15 March local government elections have until 12 noon tomorrow to nominate.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said nominations received after the noon deadline would not be accepted.
The March 15 local government polls will see 73 mayors and 480 councillors elected.
“I have on a number of occasions now encouraged people to consider standing as candidates for election, and I look forward to seeing just how many step forward” Mr Pitt said.
“I will be particularly interested to see how many women we have as candidates.
“This is a great time to become a mayor or councillor, with the local tier of government turning a fresh page in our state’s political history.”
Mr Pitt said he expected high-calibre candidates – people with strong leadership skills and the vision and capabilities needed to take their local government areas forward – to nominate across the state.
