The Honourable Anna Bligh
Revised...released: Skilled Park open day a success – and it’ll be better
Despite initial weather concerns yesterday’s Skilled Park Open Day attracted 22,000 fans and Premier Anna Bligh has today announced a further $350,000 to making accessibility even better.
“As Open Days go it was a special and offered us the chance to test the $160 million Stadium with a large crowd,” said Ms Bligh.
“As you are aware, yesterday I opened Skilled Park at Robina, the new home of the Gold Coast Titans.
“As well as funding this magnificent stadium, the Queensland Government also funded the $15 million public transport hub adjoining Skilled Park, to enable the easy access of patrons to and from the stadium using public transport.
“I was impressed by the ease with which patrons arrived and departed the stadium yesterday and how well the public transport system catered for such a large movement of people.
“In fact, my Minister for Sport, Judy Spence, and I both arrived at the stadium by train to view first hand the transport system.
“In order to enhance public transport services for the Skilled Park Stadium, I am pleased to announce today that the State Government will contribute an additional $350,000 for the further development of the Park and Ride at Firth Park, which will bring the State Government’s contribution to this facility to over half a million dollars.
“This further upgrade to the Firth Park - Park and Ride facility will make it even easier for the people of the Gold Coast to use public transport to attend Titans matches at this wonderful new stadium.
“This money will secure 300 additional sealed car parks so that patrons will not be parking on the grass or mud. Firth Park now has 480 sealed parks, of which the State has paid for 200,” she said.
