Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Communities and Youth Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr today announced 25 organisations across Queensland will take a share of more than $90,000 in grants to support events being held during Youth Week 2008.
She said this year’s Youth Week, which will be held between April 5 -13, would be themed Shout. Share. Live. Unite.
“The Queensland Government is proud to provide funding to enable a range of activities to take place across the State giving young people a platform to showcase their talents, take part in their communities, learn skills and speak out about issues of importance to them,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“National Youth Week is Australia’s single largest celebration of young people.,” she said.
“The week-long celebration also provides a chance for the community to acknowledge the contribution that young people make.
“The events will provide a range of entertainment for all to enjoy and range from circus workshops to cultural camps.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said this year’s celebrations promised to be better than ever, with youth from Callide to Redlands, and west to Charters Towers given an opportunity to participate in events and get involved in Youth Week online.
“It is important that young Queenslanders have an opportunity to promote their achievements and to raise issues of concern, both publicly and within their local communities,” she said.
“The Shout. Share. Live. Unite. Online Competition encourages young people to share their ideas and opinions in the creative medium of their choice.”
This year’s Youth Week theme asks young people to shout their views on issues important to them, share their ideas, learn new skills, live it up at Youth Week events and unite with the community.
“I encourage people of all ages to get out there and get involved in local events that celebrate the wonderful contributions young people make to Queensland.”
Youth Week is a joint Commonwealth, State and local government initiative.
