Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Reseal program to benefit south-western motorists
Main Roads has started work on a $6.5 million reseal program to protect road pavements in south-western Queensland.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today said the project was part of ongoing maintenance work in the region.
"Resealing work is a long-term solution in protecting roads against the wear and tear caused by weather and traffic, preventing the need for costly maintenance repairs,” Mr Pitt said.
“The work also preserves the underlying structure of the road, making it more resistant to water during the wet season and to cracking in the heat."
Roads scheduled to be resealed include:
• 15km on the Roma–Taroom Road
• 25km on the Carnarvon Highway (Roma–Surat)
• 17km on the Warrego Highway (Roma–Mitchell)
• 26km on the Warrego Highway (Roma–Jackson)
• 5km on the Warrego Highway (Jackson–Miles)
• 16km on various sections of the Leichhardt Highway (Miles–Taroom)
• 6km on the Leichhardt Highway (north of Taroom)
• 1.2km on the Warrego Highway (east of Miles)
• 4km on the Condamine Road (east of Condamine)
• 3km on the Roma Southern Road
• 5km on the Carnarvon Highway (south of Surat)
• 10km on the Surat Developmental Road
• 3km on the Condamine–Meandarra Road.
Mr Pitt said the project would bring benefits to motorists, the freight industry and the community.
"The resealed roads will deliver smoother, safer journeys for motorists travelling through the district," Mr Pitt said.
