Wet Weather Won't Spoil Valentine's Special Day

Forecast wet weather won't wash out the wedding day plans of the couples marrying on Valentine’s Day at the Department of Justice and Attorney-General’s Brisbane Marriage Room.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine said Valentine's Day had again proved a popular date for couples wanting a civil marriage ceremony.

"The celebrants at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Brisbane will wed 10 couples at the marriage room today, on the day when lovers traditionally express their feelings for each other," Mr Shine said.

"Last year, 79 couples throughout Queensland took the plunge on Valentine's Day, and of those, a dozen held their nuptials at the marriage room.

“More weddings are held at the marriage room than any other venue in the state, with almost 1250 ceremonies held there last year.”

Mr Shine said civil ceremonies can be arranged at the registry by appointment, with at least one calendar month's notice required.

Ceremonies are conducted during normal business hours weekdays and between 10am and 4.30pm on Saturdays. Registry weddings are also available in many courthouses in larger rural and regional areas.
