The Honourable Rod Welford
Appointments made to Library Board
Experienced public sector manager Jane Bertelsen has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Library Board of Queensland.
Arts Minister Rod Welford announced today Ms Bertelsen would head up the Board, replacing outgoing chair Emeritus Professor Roy Webb.
“I thank Professor Webb and the outgoing members for their committed work to the Library Board of Queensland,” Mr Welford said.
“They have overseen significant developments over the past few years – including the $291 million redevelopment of the Cultural Centre, which features the state-of-the-art and award winning State Library building.
“The Board has also met periodically outside of Brisbane to keep informed about local issues and to strengthen relationships with local councils and communities.
“I am confident that Ms Bertelsen and the new Board members will continue these dedicated efforts to improve access to information and knowledge for all Queenslanders.”
Mr Welford said Ms Bertelsen had extensive experience as a senior executive with local, regional, state and international organisations.
“She has over twenty years experience in project analysis and policy development and has been continuously involved in decision-making, advice and implementation activities in the management of major organisations,” he said.
Other members of the Board are – Councillor Margaret Strelow, Dr Grace Sarra, Mr Max Lenoy, Professor Stuart Cunningham, Ms Janice Rickards, Mr John Birmingham and Professor Sohail Inayatullah.
“I have selected these experienced people to lead our state-wide network of libraries and further develop them as valuable assets in our arts and cultural sector,” Mr Welford said.
“Their diversity of management skills, industry knowledge and government experience will help to shape the future direction of Queensland’s libraries.”
