Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle

Locals rush to take advantage of small business workshops

Sunshine Coast business people are advised to get in quick to secure a spot for the remaining small business workshops held this February in Maroochydore.

Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle said this month they would range from preparing small businesses for export to creating effective advertising and promotions.

“Two workshops scheduled for the Sunshine Coast are already full but there are still places available in two others,” Ms Boyle said.

“Its great to see locals taking such an interest in the workshops. It shows they really are beneficial to helping achieve business success.”

Ms Boyle said the Preparing for Export workshop on 12 February (9am-1pm) at the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s Sunshine Coast Centre not only provided an introduction to export planning, but delved deeper into the export process and how it fits into a business.

“Notably, the seminar includes the five Cs of exporting – company, country, customer, contact and competitors,” the Minister said.

“Participants will learn how to screen and select export markets as well as the importance of overseas market research.”

Craig Humphrey, Director of the Department’s Sunshine Coast Centre, said the half-day workshop would allow participants to take the time to grasp the information and get involved in the workshop activities.

Another seminar featured this month, Effective Advertising and Promotions on 20 February (6pm-9pm), is designed to give participants an understanding of what advertising is about and how they can achieve better results.

“Acquiring, retaining and maximising the value of customers is one of the most critical factors for a business,” Mr Humphrey said.

“The Effective Advertising and Promotions workshop will show participants how to do this through developing successful promotional campaigns and strategies.

“If you apply the principles covered in this workshop, you will undoubtedly find yourself producing more effective campaigns, most likely costing you less than what your currently spending.”

Both workshops cost $33.00 and are on at the Sunshine Coast Regional Development Centre, Ground floor, Cardno Centre, 9 Maud Street, Maroochydore.
