VINTAGE PROPERTY GROUP SET TO DEVELOP ITS SECOND RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX AT KELVIN GROVE

Housing Minister Robert Schwarten today announced Queensland owned and operated company Vintage Property Group would develop Lot 29 at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

Mr Schwarten said the prime residential site was released by the Department of Housing to the market for sale through an expression of interest in June 2007.

“Vintage Property Group best met the design guidelines for development at the village, in terms of sustainability initiatives, design and integration with the streetscape and other development on the site”, Mr Schwarten said.

“The Kelvin Grove Urban Village is ideally located just 2kms from the CBD, and it has established transport links including access to the Inner-City Bypass linking it to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts as well as easy access to the Inner Northern Busway.

David Carter, Director of Vintage Property Group, said it was a sound investment opportunity because of the proximity to the city and the good position within the Village itself.

“The site, located on Robinson Place and backing on to public parkland is close to retail outlets, specialty shops, restaurants, a supermarket and cafes and will prove attractive to potential residents,” Mr Carter said.

“The total area of the lot is 1,921m² with a potential gross floor area of 3,458m². This will allow the construction of 50 residential units and three townhouses within the complex.

“This development will complement the existing 32-unit residential complex we are constructing on School Street, which is due for completion in the coming months.”

Mr Schwarten said the development would add to the already existing residential complexes in the Village Centre developed by Indigo, the Village Edge developed by the Badcock Wright Joint Venture and the four affordable housing complexes owned by the Brisbane Housing Company.

The student accommodation being developed by Campus Living Villages (Kelvin Grove) has also opened and is rapidly moving toward having the full 456 beds filled by ‘O week’ which starts on 18 February.

“Not only is it providing a diverse range of residential options, but from March the Australian Red Cross Blood Service will call the Village home,” Mr Schwarten said.

“Synergy, a mixed-use retail and commercial building being developed by Citimark, will also open in the later half of the year.

“They will join the already existing commercial enterprises at the Village including Queensland University of Technology’s Creative Industries Precinct and Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation and the retail development in the Village Centre”.
