The Honourable Craig Wallace
WET WEATHER DELIVERS MUCH-NEEDED WATER TO WARRILL AND LOGAN FARMERS
Warrill Valley farmers now have access to some much-needed irrigation water from Moogerah Dam after the dam received major inflows.
The dam, which has sat at critically low levels for the past six years, has increased to a healthy 40% capacity, after a deluge of more than 200mm of rainfall fell across the dam’s catchment area.
Water Minister Craig Wallace said Warrill Valley farmers were recently advised by SunWater of a 5% water allocation after weekend rainfall but continued good rainfall since then had made it highly likely further increases would be announced next week.
“This rainfall is great news for Warrill Valley farmers because they have struggled for quite some time on zero allocations,” Mr Wallace said.
“The 5% announcement is only minor, however SunWater has advised me that further increases are expected to be made next week as a result of continuing inflows,” he said.
Mr Wallace said the good news was further widespread with SunWater’s announcement today that Logan River farmers would see a further 10% increase to their water allocations thanks to recent inflows into Maroon Dam.
“Our farmers in Logan will now be able to move into this New Year with more optimism and confidence knowing their water allocations will be 90%.
“I hope the weather bureau’s predictions of more rainfall over the sodden catchment areas eventuate so SunWater has an opportunity to further increase allocations for their customers in that region,” he said.
Dam Levels
Moogerah Dam is currently holding 33,500 megalitres and had a 24 hour increase of 8% or 6700 megalitres. The dam has received more than 20,000 megalitres since the rainfall event began on the weekend and approximately 2400 megalitres of water per day continues to flow into the dam.
Maroon Dam is currently holding 25,000 megalitres and is at 56.4%. It has had a 2.4% or 1200 megalitres increase in the last 24 hours.
