Many happy returns for Toowoomba and Darling Downs

Visitors to Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, in South East Queensland Country, are so happy with their experience that eight in ten travellers are repeat visitors, Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Jan Jarratt announced today.

Ms Jarratt, who is visiting key tourism representatives in the region, today released the results of the Darling Downs Visitor Profile and Satisfaction Survey conducted by Toowoomba and Golden West Regional Tourist Association with a special Queensland Government region grant.

“According to the survey, friendly locals are one of the key reasons travellers flock to the region and the fact that 80 percent are repeat visitors is fantastic news,” she said.

“The survey ranks friendly locals, followed by local atmosphere and value for money as the top three reasons tourists travel to the region.”

The region is delivering on the key experiences that South East Queensland Country is known for such as the chance to spend quality time with loved ones, to tour around and explore, to relax and rejuvenate, to discover something new, and a rural experience.

“Key strengths include personal safety and security, value for money, public amenities, variety, good roads and food and beverage.”

Average daily expenditure for an overnight visitor was $130.

“With the region’s proximity to Brisbane, it is an attractive short break destination with country charm, stunning scenery, restaurants, vineyards and some great antique shopping,” Ms Jarratt said.

“Visitors to South East Queensland Country enjoy discovering the hidden delights including wine, regional cuisine, events and festivals, boutique accommodation and history and heritage.

“The annual South East Queensland Country Guide highlighting the experiences of the destination is due for release in April in time for the traditional short break season.

“Through Tourism Queensland, the State Government is dedicated to ensuring the number of domestic and international visitors to the region continues to grow.”
