Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Power boost for Darling Downs township
Work starts this week on a major power upgrade to the township of Millmerran on the Darling Downs.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said $6.5 million would be spent to improve the bulk power supply to the region.
“More than 1700 homes and businesses will benefit from a more reliable and secure power supply,” Mr Wilson said.
Ergon Energy will build a new 66,000-volt powerline from the Yarranlea substation to the Pampas station.
“It’s out with the old timber poles and in with a new 21km powerline built on concrete poles.
“The existing timber pole line is old and has suffered damage in recent years from severe storms.
“The new $6.5 million powerline will deliver a stronger and more reliable bulk power supply into the Pampas substation, which is less prone to storm damage,” Mr Wilson said.
Work starts this week on clearing and delivering the poles, starting from the Pampas substation end of the line. There are two stages - a new 7 kilometre line and the rebuilding of a 14 kilometre section.
Work is expected to be completed by September this year.
