Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Way forward for disability sector: Minister
Queensland Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said the first meeting of Commonwealth, State and Territory Disability Ministers today signalled a new spirit of cooperation.
“I’ve indicated to Jenny Macklin that Queensland will work in partnership with the Rudd Government to deliver the best for Queenslanders,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“I want to make sure Queenslanders are catered for, particularly those in regional and remote areas,” she said.
The Minister said today’s meeting marked “a line in the sand”, with negotiations about to start for a fourth Commonwealth State Territory Disability Agreement (CSTDA) which had stalled under the failed Howard Government.
“There’s a real commitment by the Commonwealth and the States to work collaboratively and collegially.
“I am looking forward to the CSTDA negotiations getting off the ground in earnest when we meet again, which is likely to be as early as mid March.
“There was also a broad range of issues discussed today including autism and a national disability parking scheme.”
