State calls-in Spring Hill project
Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Paul Lucas has “called in” a housing project for low-cost units at Spring Hill.
“Churches of Christ Care proposes to build 35 units in Spring Hill for the affordable accommodation of single people who need a place to stay - including the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless,” Mr Lucas said.
“The development at 363 Gregory Tce and 50 Kinross St had already been approved by Brisbane City Council but an appeal has been lodged in the Planning and Environment Court which could mean a final decision on the project takes up to another 18 months.
“This decision will allow me to use the Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS) to reassess the application and make a final, binding decision in a much shorter timeframe.”
Under the Integrated Planning Act the Minister has the discretion to call in a development application on State interest grounds and decide the application in place of the relevant local government.
The development has approval for $6.29 million of funding from the State’s Boarding House Program and the Department of Housing has an investment in the development.
Brisbane City Council granted approval for the project in November 2007, subject to 42 conditions.
