Minister for Natural Resources and Water and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland
The Honourable Craig Wallace

GOLD COAST RESIDENT HONOURED IN NATURAL RESOURCES AND WATER AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS

Gold Coast resident Steve Dann was today congratulated by Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace for his outstanding 38 year career with the Department.

Mr Dann received an Australia Day 2008 Achievement Medallion from Minister Wallace as part of the Department of Natural Resources and Water’s Australia’s honours system.

Having joined the Titles Office – now known as the Land Registry – in 1969 Steve quickly showed an aptitude for titling work and by the mid-1990s was manager of one of the state’s busiest lodgement centres, on the Gold Coast.

In 2002 he joined the senior management team overseeing the Titles Administration Unit.

“Steve’s efforts have substantially contributed to the robust security and outstanding efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s land and water title registration that underpins Queensland’s prosperity,” Mr Wallace said.

“Many of the efficiency gains now enjoyed by both the department and its customers can be linked directly to Steve’s big picture philosophy, his innovative ideas and his commitment to realising measurable and lasting results.”

Widely recognised as an expert in the filed of land titling, Mr Dann is a key facilitator for the Queensland Government’s five year land administration training initiative being delivered to senior officials of the People’s Republic of China.

“Steve has consistently demonstrated effective negotiation skills in often complex negotiations with key stakeholder groups,” Mr Wallace said.

“His legacy to the Land Registry will be a professional and polished land titling operation well prepared to face emerging technologies and global thinking,” Mr Wallace said.

“Steve has shown a great ability to recognise opportunities for business improvement and in recent years, he has been a key architect of many of the legislative and procedural reforms that ensure Queensland continues to have one of the most efficient titling operations in the world.”
