Fraser Coast on show at G’Day USA

Queensland’s Fraser Coast will be under the spotlight at the current G’Day USA celebrations in the United States, Acting Tourism Minister and Member for Hervey Bay, Andrew McNamara, said today.

Mr McNamara said the 10-day event would profile a number of campaigns and events showcasing the Fraser Coast’s extensive tourism offerings to the American market.

“G’Day USA is one of Australia’s biggest annual marketing opportunities in the United States, and Queensland always plays a major role,” Mr McNamara said.

“Fraser Coast is one of the destinations being promoted through a range of events and campaigns taking place in New York and Los Angeles.

“The region will be part of promotions with major travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller including an eco-tourism media event and a special advertorial in an upcoming edition of the magazine featuring Fraser Coast, which is expected to be read by more than one million people.

“With the focus on environmentally-friendly tourism, Fraser Coast is a perfect fit for this promotion with its World-Heritage listing and eco-tourism product.

“In addition, holiday packages from some of Fraser Coast’s top operators are part of G’Day USA’s annual Great Aussie Auction.

“Plus, Queenslander Terri Irwin will take part in a Wildlife Warriors event in New York highlighting Fraser Coast, as well as other regions of Queensland.

“There will also be a gala black tie event in Los Angeles for US travel trade, including Queensland Specialist US travel agents and wholesalers.”

Mr McNamara said the G’Day USA events would open up further opportunities to bring more American travellers down under, and particularly, to Queensland.

“Tourism Queensland has partnered with G’Day USA organiser Tourism Australia to put together these top opportunities for Queensland’s tourism industry in another huge G’Day USA program,” he said.

“We’ve had great support from industry from all around Queensland to sell our diverse attractions and experiences to the American market.

“The United States is Fraser Coast’s third largest source market, with more than 12,000 American visitors coming to the region last year, so we already know they love what we have to offer!

“The number of American visitors to Fraser Coast increased seven percent in the year ending September 2007, along with their length of stay which rose from an average 3.1 nights to 3.7 nights.

“We look forward to building on this through promotions such as G’Day USA and welcoming more of our American friends in the future.”
