The Honourable Rod Welford
Queensland artists will get the chance to bring to life exciting new works in dance, music, theatre, writing, visual arts, craft and design with support from the Bligh Government.
Arts Minister Rod Welford said 29 Queensland artists, arts groups and organisations would share in more than $595,000 in funding to develop and present new works and exhibitions.
“These grants add momentum to Queensland’s dynamic arts and cultural profile in the local, national and international arenas,” Mr Welford said.
“They also provide Queenslanders greater access to the arts, for example through support for the Cerebral Palsy League to help provide quality arts experiences for people with disabilities.”
Mr Welford said international projects included grants to take Queensland design to the esteemed Triennale di Milano Design Museum in Italy.
“In Queensland, the grants will fund a four-day youth forum in Bamaga on Cape York to be led by local community artists,” he said.
“There is also a project helping parents, young people, educators and artists in the Noosa region develop new skills in different art forms; a statewide collaborative multimedia artwork for Brisbane Festival 2008; and a contemporary sound/experimental music festival to be held in Cairns and Brisbane.
“Funding for national projects includes an Australian tour for Indigenous soul band Banawurun and CD recording projects for Jackie Marshall and Emma Dean.
“Performances will be developed for the 2008 World Refugee Day Community Festival and Festuri’s multicultural celebration on the Sunshine Coast, with funding also going to the 15th annual 4MBS Festival of Classics.”
Mr Welford said grants were available as part of Arts Queensland’s development and presentation program, open to individual artists, collectives and not-for-profit organisations for initiatives including new work, exhibitions, productions, industry development and cultural engagement activities.
