The Honourable Rod Welford
Creative Fellowships for writers, directors and producers
Arts Minister Rod Welford has reminded Queensland’s creative talents in the film industry to get their applications in for four new $15,000 fellowships to help them gain valuable experience.
Mr Welford said the Creative Fellowship Scheme would assist writers, producers and directors to advance their career in feature film, documentary, animation, digital media and television drama production.
“Queensland’s film and television industry is going from strength to strength, which is why it’s important to cultivate our emerging talents to ensure the longevity of the industry,” Mr Welford said.
“Successful applicants will use their fellowship to undertake a program of activities in their particular field of expertise.
“It will help them to learn new skills so that they can advance their careers and gain long-term employment in the industry.
“The fellowships could involve an emerging director getting a placement under a more experienced director on a long-running television drama, or a writer using the money to travel overseas to spend time in the script department of a television production company.”
One of the fellowships is for an Indigenous filmmaker .
The Creative Fellowship Scheme is administered by the Pacific Film and Television Commission.
It is not an entry-level program. Eligible writers, directors and producers must have a screen credit in two short films, a half-hour documentary or equivalent digital media projects.
Applications close Wednesday 6 February 2008.
