The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Improved maternity and emergency department services are features of the $9 million redevelopment of the Dalby Health Service which is nearing completion, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.
Mr Robertson said he is advised Carmichael Builders are on track to complete the redevelopment by the end of January; with the new facilities ready for use by March.
“This $9 million redevelopment delivers on our election commitment to improve health services for Dalby and surrounding communities,” he said.
“The facility will contain a new Emergency and Outpatients Department, a new 10-bed Maternity unit, Medical Imaging, Pathology and a Pharmacy.
“This is a real boost for the town of Dalby to have a brand new health facility to meet the needs of the community.”
Mr Robertson said the new Maternity unit will feature six private rooms with ensuite; two 2-bed rooms with ensuite; and two birthing suites.
A bath for water immersion pain relief therapy is also a feature of the new Maternity unit.
The new Emergency Department will feature a two bed resuscitation bay, seven consulting/procedure rooms, plus a four-bed short stay area.
“Both departments are state of the art in their design and fit-out with large spacious wards and waiting areas,” Mr Robertson said.
“A major advancement in the Emergency Department is the installation of a videoconferencing unit in the resuscitation area.
“This will allow doctors to videoconference with specialists at larger hospitals in Toowoomba and Brisbane to support clinical staff in complex emergency cases.
“The hospital is also currently providing extra training in obstetrics and emergency for its nursing staff because of the co-location of the Emergency and Maternity Departments.”
