Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Newsflash…Public to vote in photographic awards: Minister
It's time for Queenslanders to cast their vote for the People's Choice winner in the Premier's Multicultural Photographic Awards.
Multicultural Affairs and Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr today announced the finalists who are in the running to win a share of more than $20,000 in prize money in this annual competition.
"In many respects all the finalists are already winners, hailing from right across this great State and showcasing the wealth of talent we have on offer," Ms Nelson-Carr said.
The Minister urged Queenslanders to get involved in the awards by voting for their favourite image online.
The People’s Choice vote is open until February 4.
This year's awards theme of “New Beginnings” attracted 245 entries.
"The judging panel of professional photographers and art curators had the tough job of selecting the finalists and I want to thank them for their tireless efforts," Ms Nelson-Carr said.
"Now it’s open to the public to have their say and I encourage everyone to get involved and vote for their favourite entry online."
Short-listed photographers are in the running to share in more than $20,000 in cash and prizes, including $12,300 for first prize which will be presented at an awards ceremony in February.
Now in their fourth year, Ms Nelson-Carr said the awards are an important celebration of multiculturalism in Queensland.
"Queensland has a vibrant and diverse community with a great variety of cultures, languages and religious beliefs," she said.
"These awards recognise that by encouraging budding and professional photographers to share their images of multiculturalism with fellow Queenslanders."
