New role for Queensland music festival artistic director

Arts Minister Rod Welford and the Board of the Queensland Music Festival have congratulated former artistic director, Paul Grabowsky, on his appointment to the Adelaide Festival.

Mr Welford said Paul Grabowsky led the successful Queensland Music Festival 2007, which was enjoyed by more than 46,000 people.

“The 17-day celebration featured more than 1000 performers taking part in over 40 events at 21 locations around the state, including an outback sunrise concert on opening day.

“Paul demonstrated his considerable ability to produce a festival of international excellence, gaining high critical acclaim.

“We wish him every success for his new role as artistic director for the Adelaide Festival in 2010.

“The fact the South Australian government has recognised Paul’s talent is testament to the quality of the festival scene here in Queensland.

“The rest of Australia is looking to Queensland to see what we’re doing in the arts. Our artists, arts organisations and festivals are producing outstanding work.

“I’m proud to say, our state has been singled out in Limelight magazine’s list of most influential arts ‘movers and shakers’ for 2008 – Queensland was the only state to be listed in its own right.”

Queensland Music Festival chair Elizabeth Jameson said the 2007 festival was Mr Grabowsky’s first appointment as a festival artistic director and he delivered a first class program to the people of Queensland.

“The Queensland Music Festival aspires to unite Queenslanders by celebrating the spirit, language and universality of music,” Ms Jameson said.

“The festival is distinctive for its ongoing commitment to creating events which reflect the characteristics and histories of local regions.”
