Aurukun Prosecutor Asked to Show Cause: Shine
The Cairns based prosecutor involved in the case of nine offenders who pleaded guilty to the rape of a 10-year-old girl at Aurukun has been asked to show cause why he should not face disciplinary action, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine said today.
Mr Shine said Steve Carter has been asked to show cause following an investigation into the handling of the prosecution in this case.
“The investigation by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Executive Director of the Office of the Public Service Commissioner, David Douglas, is now complete,” Mr Shine said.
“The Director-General of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General has received a report detailing the investigation and has asked Mr Carter to show cause why he should not be disciplined.”
Mr Shine said once Mr Carter has had the opportunity to respond to the show cause notice, the Director-General will in the New Year make a decision on what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken.
