Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts

Spare a thought for Emergency Services workers on Christmas Day

Queensland ambulance and fire and rescue services will treat Christmas Day like another working day with more than 1800 personnel on duty and another 600 auxiliary firefighters on standby across the State.

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the demand for assistance from the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service does not abate on Christmas Day.

"Christmas Day is like any other day for the QAS and QFRS. A full compliment of staff are rostered for duty across Queensland," he said.

"For most Queenslanders, Christmas Day is spent with family. In order to protect our community, emergency services workers are on the job on Christmas Day and away from their families."

"I pay tribute to and thank them for their dedication and professionalism"

QAS will operate approximately 915 paramedics and 140 emergency medical dispatchers statewide across two shifts.

There will also be approximately 770 fulltime firefighters and communication officers on duty across two shifts throughout Queensland.

In addition, more than 600 auxiliary or part-time firefighters will remain on-standby.

There are also several thousand rural firefighting volunteers to call upon should a bushfire situation arise.

“Our best wishes and thanks go these dedicated officers. We wish them and their families a safe and happy Christmas.”
